This is great. I always argued that Arabs and Jews are not traditional enemies. I hope this is the begining of a new era

While this is certainly monumental for a Muslim nation to do, the fact that she is a member of a 37 person Jewish congregation in a nation of over 700,000 muslims doesn't speak well for inclusiveness. 37 Jews! Does she pay the dhimmi tax? Is her home higher than any other in the Emirate? Is there a synogoge? Can she she freely practice her faith? Can any other of the 36 jews do so? I tell her, and all Muslims, to come to to America and you can have religous freedom. That is what this country was founded on.

That's a remarkable step forward! I've always believed that Islam and Judaism are very similar.
Steps need to be taken to promote peace between Palestinians in the Occupied Territories and the Israelis. The Bush administration has failed miserably in that regard. Hope the next President makes a serious attempt to create some sort of dialog.

Allow me to disagree with your praise for the dictatorial Al-Khalifah monarchs of Bahrain. The government of Bahrain did not appoint a Jewish woman as ambassador because it gives a damn about Jews. The minority Sunni royal family of Bahrain oppresses, tortures and discriminates against its majority Shiite population.



I have no doubt that Ms. Huda Nunu is a capable person and will represent the government of Bahrain very well in Washington. However, that is not the reason she was appointed to her new post. The illegitimate rulers of Bahrain want to present a positive image of their family externally while they oppress their people internally. In addition, Bahrain is the home to the US’s six fleet to protect the ruling families of the Gulf and on top of that, Bahrain receives handsome payments for the use of its harbors.



The reason the tiny minority of Jews in Bahrain has not been destroyed is fear of Israel’s might, which is the only language Arab, and Muslim dictators understand. I also disagree that Arabs and Jews got along well before 1948. The Jews were oppressed minorities in Arab countries and had to keep their heads down or loose them.



Finally, Al-Khalifah family is like its relatives across the Gulf, Al-Saud family. King Abdullah is holding a global interfaith conference in Spain, not in Mecca, while the majority of his population, Sofis, Ahmadis, Jafaris, and Ismaeils are excluded from the conference and treated with utter contempt at home because of their religious orientations.

I gather that Huda Nunu must be a very remarkable woman. However, significant progress between Arab and Jew in the Middle East cannot begin until the Arab League abandons its monolithic stance against Israel. I doubt that Ambassador Nunu is in a position to say so.

The Arab League will change its position on Israel once Israel stops persecuting Palestine.

First of all, let's say it is a good thing regardless of the reason. We all know that she is a token for one reason or another and not to assume that is incapable, she probably is, but let's hope it will yield something good. What is this Israel thing and that the Muslims would be so nice to them if they what, give them the West Bank and Gaza? Any Palestinian, including me, would remind you that the West Bank and Gaza was occupied by Jordan and Egypt for 19 years, they didn't only not give it to us, they kept us with no citizenship there so they can use us to fight Israel. You know why? So they can hide the fact that they sold that land, Israel and the West Bank and Gaza, which they knew Israel will one day come after. Why else they didn't dare help us and in fact kept us with no running water or electricity for 19 years in most parts because they didn't want to invest on Jewish land. Do you also remember that 900,000 Jews were kicked out of Arab countries, why? Because the government of Israel is bad so they steal their wealth and kick them out? Believe it or not, we identify with them and envy them, at least their people embraced them and gave them a home even if they are second class. Our people forbid us from having anything. these great countries of the Gulf along with the others who "BOOHOO Cry for us" won't let us have jobs, we have to pay for "free schools" and pay for colleges like outsiders and we were born there and so were our parents. We can't speak up in countries that they decide our fait because they will tell us that we are leaches (SOME LOVE HA) meanwhile, we envy the Palestinians within the Green line, they can even become ministers and have a citizenship and the right to speak regardless of their class, they are MUCH better than any Palestinian in any Arab state.
Finally, Dhimmis does exist. I hate to admit even as a Muslim I don't get how we feel OK to occupy lands and then charge the people the Dhimmi penalty, be a Muslim, leave or pay? We've never let Churches to be built or Synagogues or anything else in Islamic countries but the winners write the history. And as for the "equality" No one, no non Muslims I allowed to go to Mecca so they won't impurity it, like they are pure LOL and no Churches exist there. In the entire Gulf region, there is one church, for foreigners, that was built just a few years ago by them and for them. They are not allowed to mingle. These countries that have these bigoted rulers will put you in prison or kill you if you try to speak about other faiths but Saudi give billions to Muslims to spread Islam all over the world. Can you open your eyes? If the Steves of the world who think they are the good ones want to help, speak up against the real injustice for the interest of the people, and do not lump the oppressive, ignorant, arrogant rulers of our people with the population that isn't anything like them and doesn't believe in anything they say.
Do some homework....Talk to the real Palestinians, instead of reading what the leaders want to fool you with and stop using us for every crappy thing you want to do. Stop using us.

I don’t deny that I put a positive spin on issues relating to Jews and Muslims and I do it intentionally.

There are enough people who would rather focus on the negative. I don’t want to be among them. If we start pretending that we have positive feelings then one day we may actually have them. Perception is reality.

It is historically correct if you asses it in its historical context. Basically I am talking about the 7th to the 19th century. You have to analyze this statement in relation to the state of the world at the time. From the 7th to the 19th century, where did Jews have better lives than in the Arab world? Was it in Europe? In Germany, Russia, Spain? Why do you think so many Jews escaped Europe to the Arab world? The only place that may have been better in the 20th century is the U.S. However, based on my readings, many Jews in the U.S. kept their religion private in the 19th and early 20th century. This was not the case in the Arab world.



Moreover, why did u not comment on what Bahrain did? I think it is amazing. Why do u only focus on the negative? Can’t u see how significant this move is?

Till this day, Morocco and Tunisia use state funds to build synagogues. Does Europe do that? This only happens in the Arab world. Read this article:

I applaud you efforts to create harmony between Muslims and non-Muslims. However it is not a good idea to use myths (and wrong history) even if your purpose is noble.

Arab leadership had terrible relationships with Jews even before 1948. Please read a bit about Mufti Palestine and his "honorary ministership" in Hitler's government.

FYI., Persecuted Jews from Europe were welcomed by Ottomans i.e. Turks and not Arabs. And the same Ottomans were at constant war with Arabs.

Jews and Christians are not allowed even today to build their places of worship in Saudi Arabia.

There are many such examples of such Arab intolerance towards non-Muslims and particularly Jews.

She has been to Morroco every summer for the past six years. Now she is in Jordon studying. She truly believes that your's is a religion of peace. I am from Bahrain, so I would like to point out that the appointment of a Jew as the US ambassador is little more than a PR stunt by the government. It is eyewash, to keep the world from seeing the discrimination and human rights abuses practices at home. The government continues to discriminate against the majority Shia population, against brown-skinned migrant workers from South Asia, and against women who are denied their rights. (Just this week, Bahrain sentenced several human rights activists to over 5 years in prison)

By the way, Israel has Arab reps in many different positions in government, has made Arabic its 2nd official religion, and Arabs have more freedom--even to side with Hamas in the Knesset--in Israel than in any Arab state. What territorial compromises have Arabs offered to anybody...in the Sudan, Syrian and Iraqi Kurdistan, Egypt, Israel/Palestine, North Africa, etc.?

How great was it to be a Jew in Yathrib in the 7th century? To be the object of systematic pogroms in Almohavid Spain?
It was rather ood to be a Jew in Provence in much of the medieval times, in Poland in the 16th century and some later. Better than bein confined to ghettos in North Africa. There was no "{Arab world," there was an Ottoman Empire.

Just a correction. Jews got along best with Hindus in the past 1400 years in the town of Cochin and to this day there is no antil-semetism on the part of the Hindus.



Jews emigrated to India during the Islamic invasion of Iran. The Zorastrans , in addition to the Jews, fled Iran because of religious persecution. An Indian King gave refuge in Cochin in southern India. The Jews were highly regarded and Cochin florished. The Jews did not secede any land or cause any controvery. Hindus and Jews got along great. Many Jews have left Cochin and moved to Isreal.

While I generally applaud these infrequent and small miracles, I personally see the amazement more in the appointment of a Woman, then the fact that she is also a Jew.

***In the past 72 (or so) hours, the world public media has reported the following news-events (in no special order).
a. About 20 separate terror explosions have been detonated in mainly Hindu neighborhoods in India. The same radical Islamic group who took responsibility for the India train bombing (a few years ago) has claimed these new attacks as theirs.
b) A slew of terror attacks have occurred INSIDE Gaza City, mainly targeted at the Hamas officials who had unlawfully seized control after they split with the Fatah. Several innocents--including young children have been killed and injured.
c) The Government of China has received an official warning (terror threat) from an Islamic Radical group threatening the upcoming Olympic games in Beijing.
These are only the events which made international news. Surely left out were:
1. The ongoing (nearly continuous) squad and terror deaths of Hindu civilians in the Cashmere region of India;
2. The Islamic 'gorilla' wars in the Philippines.
3. The rather frequent apprehension by the FBI of terror cells inside the USA, thwarting their actions before they successfully occur.
4. Several other such daily events which do not make news.
Truth being consistently stranger then fiction, there are still educated people in the USA and elsewhere who blame all of this on the Jews, the USA, or both, one being the puppet of the other.
Israel is merely the 'staging ground', perhaps even the 'sound-stage' whereby all these other events are expected to deflate by comparison.

Its a good news. Blood brothers should be able to bury their religious differences and live in pease.

However, there is a factual error.
When the Jews were hounded out during the expansion of Islam, some travelled Eastwerds. They took refuge in India. Till date there has never been any signs of enmity between Indians and Jews.

One of the most interesting things about Islam and Judaism is that the most basic and important prayers of each are nearly identical.
